How to Create a Professional-Looking Niche Review Site in WordPress

Do you want to start a review website and earn money from your blog?

You can either create a dedicated reviews website for a specific niche or add a reviews section to your existing blog. Online reviews assist others in making purchasing decisions while also allowing you to earn affiliate commissions.

We’ll show you how to easily create a niche review site in WordPress and make money with it in this article.

The steps we’ll go over in this guide are listed below.

  • Why would you want to make a review site?
  • Before you begin,
  • Choosing a website theme for your reviews
  • Plugin for WordPress reviews installation
  • In WordPress, you can add a review.
  • In the sidebars, you can see reviews.
  • generating revenue from your review site
  • Taking your review site to new heights
  • Developing WordPress abilities

What is the Purpose of a Review Site?

When you’re looking to buy something online, what’s the first thing you do?

If you’re like most of us, you’ll look up the product’s online reviews to see what others have to say about it.

This is why TripAdvisor, a popular online review site, is valued at $8.5 billion.

While no one can compete with TripAdvisor or Yelp in terms of scale, we know a few people who make a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month from niche review sites.

The second option is to establish an entirely independent online review site. A review website can be made in one of two ways. The first step is to incorporate a reviews section into your existing WordPress blog.

It is critical that you do not choose a highly competitive niche, regardless of which path you take.

For example, there are a lot of sites dedicated to digital camera reviews, but there aren’t nearly as many dedicated to camera accessory reviews.

Finding the right niche is the key to creating a successful review site. A perfect niche has little competition and should be something about which you are enthusiastic.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • What resources do you have to help people get more traffic?
  • Are you able to easily entice advertisers? (i.e., are there people who sell paid goods)
  • Is there a way to earn money as an affiliate?
  • Is this a profitable niche for others?
  • What is the nature of the competition?

For step-by-step instructions, see our beginner’s guide to keyword research. To assist with research, tools such as SEMRush, Ahrefs, and Google Keyword Planner can be used.

Let’s look at how you can create a reviews site once you’ve decided on a niche.

Step 1: Prepare to Begin

Of course, WordPress is the most popular, but there are two types of WordPress. You must choose the right blogging platform before you begin your website.

When you hear the word WordPress, most people think of The popular, also known as self-hosted WordPress, is the second option. See our vs. comparison for more information. The first is, which is a hosted platform with a limited number of features.

It also gives you immediate access to all WordPress features. We recommend because it allows you to create any type of website you want.

You’ll need a good WordPress hosting company and your own domain name to get started with WordPress.

Bluehost is an officially recommended WordPress hosting provider and one of the largest hosting companies in the world, so we highly recommend them.

They’re also offering our users a free domain name, free SSL certificate, and a 63% discount on their hosting plan (exclusive to WPBeginner users).

â’ Claim This Exclusive Bluehost Offer by Clicking Here â’

If you’re looking for a Bluehost alternative, check out Siteground, which also offers a special discount to WPBeginner readers.

We’ve put together a step-by-step tutorial on how to install WordPress on any major hosting platform. The next step is to install WordPress after you’ve signed up for web hosting and created your domain name. WordPress is pre-installed on Bluehost. Most other hosting companies allow you to install WordPress with a single click.

After you’ve set up your WordPress site, you’ll be taken to the WordPress dashboard.

Step 1: Selecting an Ideal WordPress “Review” Theme

After you’ve set up your WordPress site, the first thing you should do is choose a suitable WordPress theme for your product review blog.

When looking for the best WordPress review themes, you’ll likely come across a few that include full review-site functionality. Those should be avoided at all costs.

A WordPress review site template isn’t required. The majority of those WordPress review themes are bloated and will bind you to them indefinitely.

That is why it is preferable to use a WordPress reviews plugin, as plugins can be used with any theme or design.

You will be able to change your themes without having to hire a developer in the future.

Basically, choose a theme that appeals to you in terms of appearance and feel. We have an article that will assist you in locating the ideal theme. In the next step, we’ll show you how to add the reviews feature.

For step-by-step instructions, see our guide on how to install a WordPress theme. After you’ve found a theme you like, you can install it. Do you require assistance with the theme installation?

Installing the Best WordPress Reviews Plugin (Step 2)

Now that your WordPress website is up and running, it’s time to add review functionality. We’ll use a plugin to add SEO-friendly reviews to your site, making it easier for search engines and users to find it.

See our step-by-step guide to installing a WordPress plugin for more information. The first step is to download and activate the WP Product Review Lite plugin.

This base plugin is completely free and includes all necessary features. However, advanced features such as a product comparison table, Amazon Affiliate integration, multiple templates, and more may require upgrading to the premium version of the plugin.

The WP Product Review plugin is simple to use and helps your reviews stand out in search engines by adding schema markup or rich snippets.

In layman’s terms, it adds those star ratings to your Google reviews to help you stand out.

When you activate the plugin, you’ll see a new menu item in your WordPress admin menu called “Product Review.” It will take you to the plugin’s settings page if you click on it.

There are several sections on the settings page. You must first configure the general settings.

The review box can be displayed after or before the content, or it can be manually added using the shortcode. There are three options available. Begin by deciding where you want the review box to appear.

The next option is whether or not you want users to be able to leave comments on their reviews. If you allow this, you’ll need to decide how much user feedback will influence the final review.

After that, you must select the number of options, advantages, and disadvantages that should be displayed. The plugin allows you to add 5 of each by default. You can make changes as needed.

Essentially, the plugin allows you to create a review from any WordPress blog post or page. Enabling the ‘Review’ post type is another important option on this page.

The default setting is ‘No,’ and if you’re not sure, you can leave it alone. Some users, on the other hand, may prefer to keep their reviews separate from their blog posts and pages.

For excellent, good, not bad, and weak ratings, WP Product Review uses different colors. This is where you can set the plugin’s default color scheme for ratings. Now go to the settings tab and select the rating colors option.

The rating colors can be changed to match your theme’s design.

Then, in the settings, go to the ‘Typography’ tab. You can set the default text for the pros and cons columns here. You can also change the color of the text in various sections.

The buy button is the last tab on the settings page. You can choose the colors you want to use for the buy button on this tab.

Because the buy button will also contain your affiliate link, it’s critical that you choose a color that will stand out so that more people will click on it.

Don’t forget to save your changes by clicking the ‘Save All Changes’ button.

Step 3: Adding a WordPress Review

It’s simple to add a review with the WP Product Review plugin. Using the WP Product Review plugin, you can add product reviews in WordPress in two ways.

  • To the reviews post type, add new reviews.
  • Add a review to any post or page in WordPress.

Adding reviews in WordPress is the same regardless of how you choose to publish them.

You can use the plugin to turn any WordPress post or page into a review. In WordPress, simply edit or create a new post.

If you’ve enabled the reviews post type, go to the Reviews » Add New page to create a new product review.

You’ll write your main review in WordPress the same way you’d write any other post.

When you turn it on, you’ll see the options for adding a product review. In the right column, under the ‘Document’ meta box, there is an option labeled ‘Is this post a review.’

To begin, you must provide product details such as images, text for the buy now button, a product or affiliate link, and the price of the product.

If necessary, click the Add option button to add more features. After that, you must add specific product features as well as your grade for each feature.

The pros and cons lists will be added next. You should list the product’s best features in the pros section and the features it lacks in the cons section.

Simply save or publish your post when you’re finished.

You can now see the review box in action by going to the post.

Note: If you’re still using the old Classic Editor, the product review meta box is located beneath the post editor.

Step 4: Showcase Your Reviews in the Sidebar

Your review posts can be displayed in the sidebar and other widget-ready areas with WP Product Review.

The top products and the most recent products widgets can be found on the Appearance » Widgets page.

Simply drag the widget into a sidebar and tweak the settings. When you’re finished, click the save button. You can choose the number of products to display, as well as the product title and image display options.

Next, go to your website and check out the reviews widget in action. It will display the most recent reviews, along with ratings and an image of the product.

Step five. Getting Paid for Your Review Site

Review sites are a great way to earn some extra cash on the side. To make money from your niche site, you can use a variety of business models.

The following are some of the most common revenue-generating strategies used by review websites.

Affiliate marketing is number one.

When users click on your referral link and buy from your product review site, affiliate marketers get paid. By recommending products on your website, affiliate marketing allows you to profit from your reviews.

You’ll have to look for products with an affiliate program. Joining a large affiliate network like ShareAsale or Amazon Associates is the easiest way to find awesome products in any niche.

To learn more, check out our beginner’s guide to affiliate marketing, which includes step-by-step instructions as well as the tools and plugins you’ll need to get started.

2. Publications

The majority of websites on the internet make money by displaying advertisements. You are paid for impressions or when a user clicks on an advertisement on your website.

This gives you access to thousands of advertisers looking for specific demographics. Google AdSense is the simplest way to display ads on your reviews site.

See our guide on how to properly add Google AdSense to your WordPress site for more information.

You can join other advertising networks like or sell ads directly to advertisers in addition to Google AdSense. This allows you to diversify your advertising revenue on your reviews website and maximize it.

3. Sponsored Reviews

This direct approach allows you to bypass the middleman and contact eCommerce companies directly who want their products reviewed.

You are compensated for product testing and writing reviews that reflect your true feelings about the product. The outreach process takes a long time and can have an impact on the quality of your reviews.

See our list of proven ways to make money online for more ways to profit from your reviews site.

Taking Your Review Site to the Next Level (Step 6)

WordPress is a powerful platform that gives you access to thousands of useful plugins for growing your review site.

The following are a few of the most important plugins that you should install right away.

Pretty Links is a WordPress plugin that lets you cloak affiliate links and easily add, manage, and edit affiliate links.

WPForms – It’s the best WordPress contact form plugin, and it lets you quickly create beautiful forms with a drag-and-drop form builder.

Yoast SEO is the most comprehensive WordPress SEO plugin available, and it will assist you in attracting more visitors from search engines.

MonsterInsights – It allows you to easily install Google Analytics in WordPress and generates human-readable reports so you can figure out where your visitors are coming from and which reviews on your site are the most popular. It also makes it simple to track outbound affiliate links, which aids in the continuous improvement of your marketing strategy.

OptinMonster is the best WordPress popup plugin for creating these kinds of popups. These popups are effective because they appear at the right time and are useful. Have you ever seen a coupon popup appear when viewing a product review on OptinMonster?

See our list of essential WordPress plugins for all websites for more plugin recommendations.

Step 7: Increasing Your WordPress Expertise

WPBeginner, thank you! It was extremely enlightening.

    Thank you very much.

Also, the content on this website is fantastic!! And don’t stop posting!! Thank you so much for this fantastic guide. All of your topics are crucial to understand. I find your blog to be both interesting and informative. Thank you very much for the information!!

Thank you for your kind words; we’re glad you enjoy our content.

Is it possible to set up a review site under a subdomain?

    Hello, Deba.

You’ll need to set up a separate WordPress instance in a subdomain, though. Yes, you certainly can. However, integrating your main WordPress installation and the subdomain installation so that they appear to be the same website will be difficult.

This is an excellent how-to guide, but what are the options for monetizing this type of website?

    Hello, Chris.

You can make money in a variety of ways. You can monetize your website with paid reviews, affiliate marketing, or ads.

Regardless, I adore it. It helped me save a lot of time. This is fantastic! Is that even possible? The plugin is fantastic, and it looks great when reviewing a single product. However, I’m not sure I’d use it for a top ten list. Oh my goodness!

I even looked on Fiverr for someone who could do this, but I couldn’t find anyone. I believe the plugin you mentioned is only good for product reviews. I started a new Reviews WordPress site to review all gold investment sites, but I can’t find a plugin to assist with this, so I’m doing it with just pages and posts like any other site. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for a plugin to use for this. Hello there, fantastic article! Don’t be a jerk Thank you for your assistance.

Hello there, this is a fantastic article. It’s similar to an online shopping site, but with a more complex review system. 2. Inventive+ phrasing I’m hoping you can answer a few questions: 1. Is it possible for this widget to compile review results based on the data of the logged in reviewer, for example, to show that users with x trait gave it 4/5 and users with y trait gave it 2/5? Any assistance is greatly appreciated; many thanks! And, on the back end, would it be possible (or even possible) to have a database system where you can hit add product, upload the photo and information, and then it gets added to the front end, with an automatically generated page showing the products by category, and then when a reviewer goes to the product page, they can hit a review button and rate it?

    Hello there, WP Beginner Support!

I contacted the WP Product Review plugin team, who informed me that the plugin does not currently allow visitors to create reviews from scratch, but that once an admin has created a review, visitors can add their own.

Is there a WordPress plugin or theme that allows users to create reviews before the administrator creates their own?

    Will, hello there.

There are several plugins available. WPForms and the User Submitted Posts addon are required. If your reviews are a custom post type, for example, you can accept user reviews using WPForms.

I understand why the plugin assumes the site owner will post all reviews, but the power of reviews is in the public aspect: sign-in, write a review on Google, Yelp, Amazon, and so on. I don’t see the point without it. That’s a critical blunder.

Thank you very much. I’m wondering if you could recommend some themes for a website review. You have saved my day with this useful information.

Please let me know if you think it’s possible for me to start a review website where people who have used the product can write their own reviews. If that’s the case, is there anything WordPress can do to assist me? Alternatively, your team can do whatever it takes to answer or assist with that. Thank you. I will continue to be grateful.

    Hello, Zaoul.

We’re not sure what kind of situation you’re dealing with. Customers can, however, leave reviews of the products they have used.

This is an excellent article. Thank you for sharing this information.

This plugin will allow me to do 5-7 product reviews on one page. Is that even possible?

How would I go about creating a single page on an existing website that displays reviews and accepts them (perhaps a form at the top or bottom)?

I’d like the final rating to come from the user, not the author, and that everyone’s influence on the rating is equal. How can I allow everyone, like Amazon books, to contribute to the rating? I’d like them to be able to rate without having to leave a comment.

Hello, this is a fantastic article. I’m curious if you have another article that teaches how to create a rating/review site where individual users/the general public can write reviews and put ratings on something? Is there a way to do it with a WordPress plugin? Thank you very much.

    Hello there,

I’m interested in the same thing as you are. Have you received a response to this query?

    Thank you.

Regular reviews assist site owners in gaining insights into web performance and in nurturing the site for improved results. This is a fantastic article. Built-in tools such as themes, modules, and plugins are extremely simple to install and use, putting WordPress ahead of platforms such as Sitefinity CMS, Drupal, and others. It’s critical to identify the right SET of tools, which means each tool must work in tandem with the others. Ascertain that tools are used optimistically and only when absolutely necessary. WordPress has been a great enterprise web content management service that allows users to develop sites with ease thanks to its capabilities.

Now imagine a WordPress plugin (or theme) that does the same thing in the opposite direction. This is an excellent article. This would be comparable to a site like Tripadvisor or Yelp, which are essentially guest-contributed. How about allowing site visitors (rather than the author) to rate several different product options?

I would sat Got an Idea! on this article because it is extremely useful.

Thank you for providing such an informative article. WPBeginner is one of the best sites; after reading this article, I realized I needed to make some changes to my review niche blog.

    Hello there,

I’m thinking about starting a review site, and since I’m still new to this, I hope you don’t think this is a silly question. If you had a review site, would you have to buy and personally review each item you put on it, or would you just rely on what others have to say and pull reviews in from places like Amazon? Great post with a lot of useful information.

Obviously, reviewing products that you have used or trust would be better and more ethical. It’s entirely up to you.

Thank you for sharing this useful post with us.

Everything has a purpose. This website is fantastic. But, thank you for providing a useful plugin like wp product review, which I was unaware of. Inshallah, I will definitely use it in the future. I also have a product niche site where I make a few hundred dollars per month.
